Tosa Omotenashi Kinnoto

“Tosa Omotenashi Kinnoto” a.k.a. “Motekin” is a group of six members from Kochi Prefecture who are dressed as famous samurai warriors in the late Edo period. The group was formed in April, 2011 to liven up tourism in Kochi and performs at Kochi Tabi Hiroba located near the south exit of JR Kochi Station.

The members of “Motekin” are Ryoma Sakamoto, Hanpeita Takechi, Izo Okada, Shintaro Nakaoka, Yataro Iwasaki and the only woman in the group, Kawaraban-ya (news-sheets seller) Ryo. Their original songs and dance performances are partly inspired by Yosakoi and the colors of their costumes are based on specialties of where they were from.

These ideas promote different aspects of Kochi. The show, filled with their big smiles, greatly involves the audience so that they can have fun together with the members. Many fans from not only Kochi but also other prefectures come see their performance every weekend.

“Motekin” hopes to be the catalyst to broaden the charms of Kochi to tourists, and understands that they could be seen as representative of Kochi. They have been performing at many stages nationwide and are already the face of tourism in Kochi.

Experience communication without borders thorough the performance by the historical figures with big Tosa spirit. “Come have fun with us!” they say welcomingly. The show is held only on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. During weekdays, except Wednesdays, they welcome you at “Ryomaden” Bakumatsu Heroes Pavilion nearby. You can take photos dressing like Ryoma and enjoy looking around a replica of Ryoma’s birthplace which was constructed for the 49th NHK Taiga drama. Please ask for audio guidance in English, Chinese or Korean at the box office. Go to their official blog to check out their latest schedule.
